Lucknow: In a major setback to Congress party, its former UPCC president and sitting MLA from Lucknow Cantt Rita Bahuguna Joshi joined the BJP before national president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday.
Interestingly, former Uttarakhand chief minister and brother of Joshi, Vijay Bahuguna has already joined the BJP and is presently the member of BJP’s national executive.
Speculations were rife for the past several days that Rita Bahuguna Joshi had met Shah and would join the BJP.
Sources within the BJP said that he was expected to join earlier, however, her demand to adjust his son, delayed the process as the party was not in position to adjust both mother and son.
With Joshi in BJP now, it would be interesting to see who would be BJP’s candidate from Lucknow Cantt as former MLA Suresh Tiwari and others are already vying for the party ticket.
Joshi’s joining the BJP has certainly come as jolt to Congress just like Swami Prasad Maurya’s joining the BJP giving jolt to BSP and its chief Mayawati.
