Dengue outbreak: Cops suspecting infection allowed to go on leave without notice

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lucknow Manzil Saini passed a directive on Saturday regarding leaves of policemen suspecting dengue infection. The SSP has approved leave without notice for policemen suffering from high fever, taking note of the sudden deaths of two policemen infected with dengue virus.

Such leaves can be approved later on by the senior officials, she said. Also on Saturday, a health check-up camp was set up in the Reserve Police Lines for the policemen and their family members.

Earlier this month, Inspector Krishna Gopal Shukla and HCP Anil Pandey lost their lives after getting infected by dengue virus while on duty. In her order, SSP Saini said that if any policemen is suffering from high fever and suspects that he or she is infected by the dengue virus, the person could go on leave without waiting for its approval.

The official can notify his superior while receiving treatment and they can approve his or her leaves later on, the SSP’s directive further stated. It was also reported that Saini’s move could be in connection with the delay in sanctioning of Inspector Shukla’s leaves, which might have caused his death.

In another initiative concerning well-being of the city policemen and their families, DGP Javed Ahmad ordered the setting up of a medical check up camp in the Police Lines auditorium on Saturday. The camp was organised under the supervision of chief medical officer (CMO) Lucknow.

The doctors appointed at the camp by the CMO carried out free consultations and check-ups of the police personnel and their family members. Free medicines were also provided to people who were diagnosed with any kind of ailments. The medical camp was also attended by SSP Saini herself, along with other senior police officials.
