Vyapam scam prime accused Shivhare held in Kanpur, carried reward of Rs 5,000 on arrest

A joint team of CBI and STF nabbed the main accused in Vyapam scam of Madhya Pradesh from Kanpur on Tuesday night. The accused identified as Shivhare was presented in the court on Wednesday. He was later given transit remand to CBI to be taken to Jabalpur and presented in the court on or before May 7. According to STF sources, name of Ramesh Chandra Shivhare, whose wife had been zila panchayat chairperson, had first surfaced in the Vyapam scam of Madhya Pradesh in 2012.
Since them Ramesh had been absconding. An award of Rs 5,000 was also announced on the arrest of Shivhare. However, on Tuesday night, acting on a tip-off, a joint team of CBI and STF reached Kalyanpur’s Awas Vikas Colony and arrested Shivhare. After the arrest, CBI and STF teams interrogated Shivhare for several hours before presenting him in the court on Wednesday.
According to speculations, Shivhare was planning to contest vidhan sabha election on Samajwadi Party ticket.
Vyapam is a body of Madhya Pradesh that organises exams for the government jobs which are not held by Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commision. As per the accusation in Vyapam scam, ineligible candidates were selected after records were fudged in the computer list. As per the scam estimate, around 1000 appointments through vyapam were believed to have been wrongly done. The inquiry into the scam is still on. Several high level officials and politicians have been put behind bar in the scam. The issue came to limelight in 2013. Presently, an STF team under the monitoring of Madhya Pradesh High Court is investigating the scam.
